A former Catalan-style forge turned into a living museum in Andorra la Vella: traditional ironworking demonstrations on the very site where iron was once produced.
Farga Rossell is a former Catalan-style forge (farga catalana) located in Andorra la Vella, one of the last of its kind preserved in the Pyrenees. This traditional iron-production process, which used charcoal and water power to drive bellows and trip hammers, was for centuries a pillar of the Andorran economy, with local iron ore processed on site before being exported. Now converted into a museum, the site brings this artisanal know-how back to life through a setting faithful to the forge's original operation and live demonstrations that let visitors of all ages watch the movements of the old ironworkers. Farga Rossell forms part of the Iron Route (Ruta del Ferro), a cultural trail linking several sites connected to this historic ironworking activity, a testament to the importance of metallurgy in the economic and social development of the Principality.
