A cultural space opened in 2019 in Santa Coloma, dedicated to Andorran medieval art: recovered mural paintings and liturgical objects from several of the country's churches.
Opened in 2019 in the village of Santa Coloma, Espai Columba – Andorran Medieval Art is a cultural facility created to introduce the public to a heritage that long remained little known: the medieval mural paintings and liturgical objects from Romanesque churches scattered across Andorra's parishes. The space brings together and displays several collections of recovered and restored frescoes, along with ancient religious furnishings, offering a rare glimpse into Andorran sacred art of the 11th-12th centuries, a period when many small rural churches were decorated with painted cycles depicting biblical scenes and figures of saints. The exhibition highlights the conservation work carried out by Andorran authorities to safeguard this fragile heritage, often threatened by humidity, the passage of time and the transformation of religious buildings over the centuries. Espai Columba thus forms an essential complement to a visit to the Romanesque churches still standing throughout the country.
